BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OVER the last two weeks, close to a dozen individuals appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court for traffic offences they were accused of committing and most of them pleaded guilty.
The drivers appeared before His Worship Reynold Benjamin on May 2, May 9 and today (May 10), with those appearing on the first listed date pleading guilty to the charges.
Christopher Anyakork of Pine Garden, Shadwell was fined $650 for a November 27, 2012 offence of driving without due care and attention. The fine has to be paid within two weeks or a one month custodial sentence would be imposed.
Gretson Powell of Stapleton Village – for failing to comply with a traffic sign on February 19, 2013 – was cautioned.
Kian Farrell of West Farm admitted to committing a driving without due care and attention offence and was ordered to pay a $500 fine in one month or serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison.
Tabernacle resident Calvert Clarke was fined $75 to be paid within one week or serve an alternative sentence of 14 days in prison. This punishment was handed down after he confessed to a March 27, 2013 offence of driving off the bus route.
Jervis Chapman – resident of Upper Cayon – told the Court that he is guilty of obstructing the flow of traffic and failing to stop at the designated bus stop to allow passengers to embark or disembark. On each count, he was fined $75 to be paid within seven days or serve a 14-day custodial sentence.
Lennon Caines of Conyers – for collecting passengers while outside of a designated bus stop – was fined $100 to be paid within 14 days. A 14-day custodial sentence would be imposed if he fails to pay within the specified time.
Lodge Project resident Lebron Walters was cautioned for committing a march 21, 2013 offence of driving without due care and attention.
Wilfred Browne of Lower Monkey Hill – for failing to produce his driver’s licence and failing to produce his vehicle’s insurance on March 6, 2013, was fined $75 on each count. The fines are to be paid within seven days.
On May 9, Elsworth Sutton of Bird Rock pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and driving without due care and attention, offences which were committed on December 31, 2012. He was fined $750 for the first offence and cautioned on the latter.
Accused of committing three counts of driving off the route, Trevor Mason was tried, convicted and fined $250 on each count. The offences were committed on July 28, November 29 and December 4, 2012.
And earlier today Orland Belle of Belle Vue pleaded guilty and was issued a $250 fine by the Court for driving off the bus route on July 28, 2012.
