    Hon. Timothy Harris

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Parliamentary Representative for the people of Constituency #7, the Honourable Timothy Harris is, during this month, celebrating his 15th year in that position and has catalogued his achievements since taking office.

During Tuesday’s (Nov. 11) sitting of National Assembly, Dr. Harris recalled that on November 29, 1993, the people of that constituency which comprises of Tabernacle, Mansion, Christ Church, Phillips’, Molineaux, Bourryeau, Lodge Village, Lodge Project and Ottleys, opted to have him represent them and while the responsibilities related to that position were many, his willingness to serve spoke volumes.

“I recall then at twenty eight (28), I was entering the Federal Parliament as its youngest Member of Parliament and first person from St. Christopher 7 to be so elected.  I confess that at that time I had not contemplated that the fountain of good fortune would prevail with me so long and so assuredly.

When I accepted the onerous responsibility to serve the people…I could not have been comprehensively seized with the immense demands on my time, resources, family and loved ones, that followed almost inexorably on the shoulders of an enthusiastic M.P., simply willing to serve.

I came forward to do the best that I could, first for the people to whom I owed the duty of care and representation…I came forward too, to do the best that I could for my country.”

Dr. Harris, a son of Constituency #7 soil and a son of Margaret Harris of St. Kitts and Godfrey Nisbett of Cotton Ground, said that is was by “the will and the grace of God” that he found good fortune in Constituency #7 where others who hail from that constituency have been met with failure at their attempts of being elected.   ~~Adz:Right~~

“The results and statistics of the general elections since 1993 up to 2004 show that my constituency has strengthened and has been transformed for the better.  The strengthening of the constituency is to the credit and hard work, love and support of my campaign team and constituents at large.”

Upon taking office in 1993, Dr. Harris explained, the administration under which he serves, the Labour administration, has undertaken and accomplished a number of transformative ventures in Constituency #7 which redound to the benefit of his constituents.

“I give thanks that life for the vast majority of my supporters has been transformed for the better.  My constituents have been empowered in many ways” including the distribution of land and homes, the construction of two “brand new modern” primary school in Mansion and at Lodge Project, the addition of a Dental Unit to the Mary Charles Hospital located at Molineaux, the construction of a new health centre at Molineaux, the improvement of roads at Spooners, and other areas, the upgrading of the Belle Vue area and support of youth development through the issuance of scholarships, the formation of the Inner City Basketball League and the formation of the Constituency #7 Domino League.

The Parliamentary Representative noted that there are other projects in the pipeline, some of which have already begun. Progressing projects include the construction of the Tabernacle Police Station and the Tabernacle Post Office, improvement of the roads in Lodge Village, Molineaux, Christ Church and Tabernacle, and the renovation of the Molineaux Primary School.

While his record is not perfect, the Honourable Minister noted “it has been commendable…I hope that over the last 15 years I have been a worthy advocate for the people of St. Christopher 7 and an effectual servant of the Federation. If history were to be kind to me, it would conclude that my public engagements were efficacious”.
