BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CHILDREN living in the Old Road and neighbouring communities will soon have access to basic computer training while the older population will be given an entertainment lounge.

These luxuries will be provided by the People's Action Movement’s (PAM) candidate for St. Christopher Four, Lindsay Grant.

Speaking exclusively with SKNVibes, Grant said that he has intentions on transforming his current constituency office into a computer training and entertainment centre for the youths of Old Road and neighbouring communities.

"This building is in the heart of Old Road and it gives me the opportunity to mobilise the young people. We have an office on the eastern area, so we are going to use that office there to basically run classes and entertainment for the young people," Grant explained.

The children’s programme, he said, would include basic computer training classes while the adults’ would have domino games, among other forms of entertainment.

Grant elucidated that the idea for such a centre was one that has been on his party’s agenda for quite some time.

"We have always planned on doing computer classes among other classes...it [the idea] didn't come out one time. Right now I think there is a need in the community and it is a need that we want to fill at this point in time."

He further explained that the age for the computer classes would range from four to 15 years, adding that technology is the way forward and they want to ensure the children are able to keep up with its constant advancement.

With regards to the new constituency office, Grant said he is in the process of making arrangements to take over the office which the current Parliamentary Representative for that Constituency, Glen 'Ghost' Phillip, held.

He however explained that there are a few hiccups due to the electricity battle between the landlord and the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) with regards to outstanding payments.

"The process with the electricity is something that still needs to be sorted out. I am not certain how that is going to be dealt with," Grant stated.

But, with the education/entertainment centre, Grant said it is dependent on the outcome of the electricity bill dilemma with the SKNLP.

"It (centre) all depends upon whether or not we get the other office and what time we get it, because, obviously, the electricity is the Labour Party's to pay and I understand that they don't want to pay. So I'm still trying to work out that with the landlord," Grant said.

Grant added that the education/entertainment centre is just one of many gestures that he and the PAM intend to put in place to benefit the youths of Constituency Four in particular and St. Kitts as a whole.
