National Bank donates to refurbish Saddlers Primary Library

    Basseterre, St. Kitts -
The Saddlers Primary School yesterday was buzzing with excitement as they officially opened the school’s newly refurbished Library.

This project was sponsored by the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Ltd. And the opening coincided with the school’s reading week which is being celebrated under the theme “Done with the TV, Cool with the Lime, Give me a book, Its Reading Time!”

Mrs. Shirna Pemberton, Marketing Officer at National Bank, remarked that the Bank was on a mission to identify and fund a programme that would enhance the educational experience of children at the primary level.

“After much research, we decided that a library improvement and expansion programme was timely and would benefit students as well the teachers.”

Mrs. Marvah Bradshaw, the Principal of the school thanked the Bank for its substantial contribution and invited all those present to witness the cutting of the ribbon and the unveiling of the beautiful new Library premises.

The Library was dedicated in the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Eustace Edwards, pillars in the Saddlers community, and parents to Mr. Terrence Edwards, head teacher at Tyrell Williams Primary School.

During the 60’s, the Edwards’ family had used their home as a Library for the children in the community to have access to reading and books.

Also, present at the event to show their support for the school were Parents, Teachers, Peace Corps Volunteers and Students, all who gave of their time and resources to help make the dream of a fully functional, spacious, and inviting Library a reality.

Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Patrick Welcome, delivered the feature address which focused mainly on the critical role of reading in children’s development.

In closing, Mr. Welcome lauded the contribution of National Bank to the future of our Nation’s children, and then urged the students to make the best use of their new Library.
