BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE young man who sustained multiple gunshot injuries this morning (May 14) in Nevis and who was reportedly fighting for his life in hospital, lost the battle late this afternoon.
The victim – who has been identified as Kishmoy Challenger of Pond Hill – was shot sometime after 8:00, after he reportedly disembarked his vehicle having arrived for work at Cliff Dwellers.
Information which this publication received suggests that upon exiting the vehicle, a gunman or gunmen opened fire on him, striking him several times.
He was rushed to the Alexandra Hospital where he underwent surgery and was then warded there.
Unfortunately, sources inform that the young man died at about 5:00 p.m.
This media house has learnt that there are currently no suspects in custody but police officers are making investigations into the incident.
Challenger was one of five who were – in 2006 – convicted of the 2004 stabbing death of 16-year-old Eric Weekes.
However, the conviction and sentence of the High Court were appealed and the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal overturned the lower Court’s ruling for four of the five, including Challenger, exonerating them.
