BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 7TH 2005 (CUOPM) Six nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis left the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on Sunday to pursue full scholarships offered by the Government of Mexico.
The scholarships were accepted by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis following bi-lateral discussions and in keeping with its policy to ensure that Kittitians and Nevisians prepare themselves for the challenges of globalisation.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Establishment Division, Mrs. Torfrida Rochester said the six are among eight persons who were awarded full scholarships, which cover tuition, accommodation, living expenses, medical insurance, ground transportation from Mexico City to the city in Mexico where they will purse studies and a round trip airfare from St. Kitts to Mexico and return.
Jahnald Audain will pursue a first degree in Economics; Dave Simon in Livestock Engineering; Sonia Boddie, International Studies; Glenroy Morton, International Relations; Stuart Versailles, Agricultural Engineering and Gloria Bertie, Linguistics, said Mrs. Rochester.
She said that Phyllis Koppel will leave in July to purse a masters degree in Communication studies and the reigning Ms. St. Kitts, Johan Kelly, will go to Mexico in January to pursue a degree in tourism.
We congratulate the students on their acceptance of the scholarships which will allow them to complete their specific degrees and later embark on new professions. On their return they will not only be in possession of degrees but also fully bilingual, said Rochester.
