ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, May 15th, 2013 – A donations desk has been established at the Ministry of Health. The intent and purpose of the desk is to co-ordinate and manage all donations being made to the Ministry of Health as well as to ensure that donations are of the best quality.
The desk is located at the Ministry’s Botanical Gardens head office; and is being managed by former Health Minister - Mrs. Ann David-Antoine.
Mrs. Antoine, who is the Policy Advisor to the Minister for Health, said in an interview on Tuesday, that the primary objective of the desk is to make certain that donors adhere to the Ministry’s Donations Policy and that contributions are managed and put to good use.
“We want to ensure that when someone donates something to us, it is of the best quality, it’s useable; and that we take good care of it so that the people that need it most benefit from it”, explained Mrs. Antoine.
Antoine said since the change of Government in St. George’s, on February 19th, there has been a huge outpouring of support for the Ministry of Health in terms of donations.
“Many people are offering support to us and we have been receiving calls from various persons. In fact in recent times we’ve received beds, mattresses, pillows, medical supplies and accessories, furniture and other items” – “So what we have being doing is keeping proper inventory, checking the quality of the items and distributing them accordingly to the various health institutions/facilities and in some cases individuals that are in need”, the former Health Minister noted.
Only last week, the Ministry of Health was the beneficiary of a large shipment of “Nutrilite Multivitamins and Multimineral Supplements” from the Foursquare Gospel Church of Canada through its sister church the Foursquare Gospel Church – Grenada.
The shipment which is valued at Canadian $30,000.00 included vitamin supplements for adults and children.
