BASSETERRE, St.Kitts, May 17th 2013 - The People’s Action Movement’s recently announced candidate for East Basseterre Mr Ian “Patches” Liburd has invited Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Dr Earl Asim Martin to a public debate on Martin’s representation of Constituency #1 as Parliamentary Representative over the last 18 plus years.
The invite came recently during one of a series of meetings now being staged by the People’s Action Movement.
“I would like to issue an invitation to my opponent and the Parliamentary representative of this area Dr Earl Asim Martin,” the PAM Candidate told a large crowd. “I would like to invite Asim to engage me in a debate on the state of affairs in East Basseterre and the lack of representation being provided by him as the Parliamentary Representative. Dr. Martin must account for the stagnant or regressive development of our beloved Newtown and East Basseterre. After 18 years our young people still cant find work, our streets are paved only when elections are imminent.”
Liburd indicated over the next few weeks he will be outlining his plans for East Basseterre that will result in a much improved standard of living for the people of the constituency.
The former speech writer for Martin, accused the Deputy Prime Minister of abandoning his constituents for most of the term in office. He further stated that Martin has only in recent times found it convenient to be seen in the constituency now that elections are imminent,. Patches asked, “When last you see Asim in Ponds Extension or in East Street, George Street or Ponds Pasture?
Patches, as he is known in the entertainment industry from his days with the world famous Ellie Matt and the GI’;s Brass, is a very well known social activitist and popular radio talk show host. His candidacy has been met by overwhelming enthusiasm by the constituents of East Basseterre . This is confirmed by recent polls which suggest Martin will have a tough time retaining his East Basseterre seat.
The People’s Action Movement’s next stop is in Saddlers for a townhall meeting on Wednesday 22nd May and in Boyds for a Public Meeting on Thursday 23rd May.
