Washie agrees with Condor, Harris to forego Labour Conference...

Washington ‘Washie’ Archibald

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WHILE Hons. Sam Condor and Dr. Timothy Harris are being criticised in some quarters for their apparent decision to forego attending the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Conference at which they are expected to be disciplined, others have counted it as a good decision on their part.

The convention took take place today at the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel and Condor and Harris are reportedly out of the Federation hosting town hall meetings in both New York and Canada.

Speaking to SKNVibes in a recent exclusive interview, Washington ‘Washie’ Archibald expressed his agreement with the men’s decision suggesting that their time is better spent elsewhere.

“They have cleared the way for whatever Douglas wants to do. Sam is not the Deputy Leader and Tim would definitely not be the Chairman anymore. They have already severed themselves from Dr. Douglas. And so they are quite right to leave and to do something more useful to go to get on with their campaign, because they are serious about their campaign to displace Dr. Douglas. So why should they hang around to have another fight? Two years in a row they had fights!

“So the fight has ended now in their total severance from Douglas and so Douglas would just prepare for the fight on the street and not within the confines of the Conference. The Conference belongs to Douglas. He rules it...he pads it with all his supporters. Well these two men have had enough of that and decided to form a party of their own; form a proper Labour Party which promotes the tenets of the founders of the Labour Party. It is a good move I believe for them to be in New York having a town hall meeting, and Douglas needs to get on with his conference.”

It has been suggested in some quarters that Archibald seems open and ready to defend and support anyone whose ideologies, philosophies and actions are diametrically opposed to Dr. Douglas’, simply because they oppose Dr. Douglas, an individual whom he opposes.

In response to this suggestion however, Archibald expressed that “there is a point in that but it also means that we all disagree with Doulas on the same grounds”.

“I have been disagreeing with Douglas long time, since 2008 when I warned the country that he is mashing up the Labour Party, that he is destroying the country. And in 2008 I advised Sam and Tim on the radio to cross the floor. My reason for disagreeing with Douglas is the same that these men have come to find are good reasons. He is not a good leader. He is a man without principle. I don’t disagree with Douglas on any personal grounds. I don’t even know Douglas properly. I don’t know his background. I don’t know anything about him. I didn’t know him when he was small, I didn’t teach him in school, so I have nothing personal against him.

“But he took up the Labour Party of which I was a supporter and my father was a founder and he has destroyed the Labour Party, he has destroyed the Labour Union. And so I am against that. Not only that, he is taking the lands of the sugar industry under his personal portfolio and he is doing a whole lot of things which nobody in their right mind could agree with. And these are the reasons why Sam and Tim have gotten against him. So I agree with them fully because they have now come out on my side of the disagreement between myself and Dr. Douglas,” Archibald added.

The SKNLP Conference was divided into two segments, the Public and Business Sessions, in which  party issues would be discussed and decided upon during the latter Session.
