BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Green Valley Festival 2013 yesterday (May 20) hosted its Parade of Troupes, which showcased colours and culture, with dozens turning out to participate in the annual celebration.
Large groups of people gathered in the streets of Cayon to witness the event, as members of the Troupes gyrated in colourful costumes to the sounds of the Road March champions, Small Axe Band, as well as the Kollision Band.
The Parade of Troupes began just before 3:00 p.m. from St. Mary's Park in Cunningham Village.
Approximately five troupes paraded through the streets of Cayon along with clowns and masquerades as well as a number of Green Valley residents dressed in outfits that added humour to the event.
The Parade ended shortly before 7:00 p.m. due to the heavy downpour of rain, which prevented many spectators from continuing the jam session that they started, since they were deprived of the opportunity to do so earlier in the day.
To the disappointment of many, the Troupes did not get the opportunity perform onstage at the Maynard’s Park, which had become a tradition.
The Green Valley Festival began on May 10 with the opening ceremony and was followed by a Basketball and Netball Festival, Movie Night, a Karaoke Competition and a Cultural Expression.
The J’Ouvert Jam was cancelled following a directive from the Commissioner of Police to quash the permit for the annual event that was scheduled for yesterday morning in Cayon.
