BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ATHLETES of the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis continue to shine globally, not only in track and field but also in the game of football.

One such athlete is Atiba Harris, who is currently plying his trade with the Colorado Rapids in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the USA.

Harris, who hails from St. Peter’s, joined the Rapids this season following a trade from the Vancouver Whitecaps FC; a club for which the midfielder/forward was a member for some two years.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Harris briefly highlighted his success for the season thus far and stated that his first goal for the franchise was devoted to his newborn daughter.

“My greatest achievement so far this season is definitely scoring my first goal for my team which I dedicated to my newborn daughter Keriana.”

Harris declared that he is adjusting to his new teammates and disclosed that his family is now settling down in its new environment.

“My teammates are all great guys, so we all get along well. My family has settled in well in Colorado. My wife (Rachael) loves it and my older daughter (Laila) had enjoyed playing in the snow, and now she loves the sunshine since she can actually play outside more.”

Harris also stated what he wants to achieve for his new club during the remainder of the season.

“My goal is to make it to the playoffs and also play and contribute as much as possible this season.”

The proud Kittitian also made a promise to citizens and residents of the Federation.

“Kittitians and Nevisians can always expect 100 percent effort from me. We're a proud people and I'll always do my best when I step onto the field, because I know I'm not just representing myself but everyone back home.”

In 2006 Harris became the first player from St. Kitts and Nevis to sign for MLS when he joined Real Salt Lake for the 2006 season. He has scored four goals and added one assist in 22 regular season appearances for the Utah-based club.
