BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POPULAR preacher, businessman and aspiring politician Khrystus Wallace was recently charged for demanding money by menace.
A police press release dated May 18 stated that the 26-year-old of Boyd’s Village was charged with the offence, which he allegedly committed on May 16, 2013.
SKNVibes contacted the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, to explain the basis of the charge.
David explained that it involves someone asking another to give him or her “money for something that they can hold over your head”.
Asked if it is a form of blackmail, David said it is “close to it”, noting that they both fall under the same category.
This media house also contacted Wallace on the matter and was told: “I’m in the doctor’s office right now. I’m not answering any question without my lawyer. You can call my lawyer.”
Wallace provided a surname and telephone number of a lawyer and claimed to have more than one lawyer representing him.
“That’s one of my lawyers…but he’s the most senior one.”
SKNVibes also sought to get a legal explanation on Wallace’s charge and found that the incident allegedly stemmed from demanding money via a text message.
A certain lawyer said he could not make sense of the charge against Wallace because the police did not provide adequate details.
This media house was told by the lawyer that the matter would be looked into so as to make a proper pronouncement on the charge against Wallace.
Quite recently, Wallace had gotten much media and public attention following the March 2, 2013 launch of his political party - Blazing Star Movement.
Since then, on social media and self-established websites, Wallace has been frequently posting blogs about his money problems, business challenges, politics and his health, which have left many to ponder over his psychological well-being.
In April he was warded at the Joseph N. France General Hospital and some individuals were claiming that he was receiving psychiatric treatment during his stay there.
