Police apprehend Frigate Bay burglary suspect by Valu Mart

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO men were late this afternoon (May 23) apprehended in the vicinity of Horsford’s Valu Mart and are currently in police custody assisting the lawmen with their investigations into a burglary that was committed in the Frigate Bay area.

     

    SKNVibes got wind of the apprehension and was initially informed that the men had committed a robbery at the Royal Bank of Canada’s Wellington Road Branch and were caught by the police. 

    However, on arrival at the scene, the information was proven to be false and a source close to the police revealed that one of the two men “is definitely the individual who had burglarised a residence in Frigate Bay”.

    Questioned about the other individual, the source stated that he would soon be released but, at the moment, “he is assisting police with their investigations because he was in the company of the suspect”.

    The source stated that the suspect was under surveillance shortly after the burglary occurred and he was being followed this afternoon for some time before taken into custody.

    “Officers had the suspect in their sight and for quite some time this afternoon and they were following him. He was intercepted in the Valu Mart area and a search of the vehicle that he was in revealed a number of items of evidentiary value related to the burglary,” the source said.

    At press time the suspect was still in custody at the Basseterre Police Station but not charged with the alleged offence. The source however explained that investigations were ongoing and the investigators have approximately 72 hours before instituting “charges of burglary and larceny”.

    This media house was told that the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is now better equipped in its ability of crime solving.

    “Over the past months, many members of the Force had received specialised training from a number of overseas experts, especially from the US. This training had led to the video recording of suspects while being questioned by investigators. However, in the absence of the recording system, an individual who is not an affiliated with the Police Force would be present.

    “The training has also led to the formation of a number of units including the Strategic Intelligence Unit, Special Victims Unit and the Violent Crimes Unit, all of which have boosted the Force’s capability in the execution of its mandate,” the source explained.

    The source was also high in praise of members of the public, noting that, unlike in the not too distant past, cooperation between them and the police has significantly improved.
