BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ANTIONE ADAMS, the Federation’s budding sprint superstar, has set himself a target during the course of his 2013 outdoor season. He plans to run the 100 metres under 10 seconds.
Speaking exclusively with SKNVibes, the Cayon resident outlined what his targets are for the 2013 season.
“My main objective for this season is simple. Run fast! But to be more specific, I am aiming to go under the 10 seconds (100m) and 20 seconds (200m) barrier. My coach says I am ready, so we will see how it goes.”
He also explained how his outdoor season has so far panned out.
“My season so far is very interesting. As much as I want to run very fast now, my coach keeps telling me to be patient. Everything is on pace still. I am thankful to be healthy so far and very excited for what is coming. I have faith.”
Adams also made pronouncements on how his preparation is going for the 2013 IAAF World Championships.
“I have to qualify for the World Championships before I can start making any specific preparations. I am confident that I will make the standards. I just need quality races and good conditions.
“My training programme has been specifically designed for me to run extremely fast in June onwards. I am just keeping the faith and being patient as my coach says. He is usually always right when he says I will run fast.”
When asked about his readiness in taking up the leadership role for team St. Kitts at the World Games to be held in Moscow, Russia, he responded by saying: “I am very humbled to be where I am at now in my career. I am making progress which is refreshing because I have worked very hard over the years.
“I am hoping that the hard work can really pay off this year and help me to really make a mark in the World Championships.”
Adams set a target which he plans to achieve at the upcoming games.
“My aim is to make the finals in an event, preferably the 200m, but the 100m is also possible. However, like I said, I have to officially qualify first. I have faith that it will happen at the right time.”
Adams is currently the local 100 metres champion and is expected to defend the title at the 2013 National Invitational and Club Champions at the Silver Jubilee Stadium slated for June 16.
