CAROA Elects New Council - Gumbs is Vice-President

    May 24th, 2013   -  On Thursday 9th May the Caribbean Ombudsman Association held its biennial General Meeting at the Sonesto Maho Beach Resort on Sint Maarten.

     

    President Valton Bend Ombudsman of Barbados chaired the meeting and called on Rev.Florence Daley, chairman Montserrat Complaints Commission to offer the prayer. It is to be noted that Montserrat has instituted a three member commission to deal with complaints and human rights.

     

    The President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) Dame Beverly Wakem of New Zealand was introduced to the meeting followed by a briefing on discussions at the meeting of the Board of  Directors of IOI held in Vienna, April 15--16,2013 by Dr Arduin ,Ombudsman St .Maarten. St.Kitts-Nevis is not yet a member of the IOI.

     

    The Financial Report was  circulated and after much discussion it was approved. A new Council was elected to run the affairs of CAROA until the next Conference.

     

    The members are as follows:-

    The meeting noted the attendance of the Ombudsman of Haiti Madame Florence Elie and the chairman Rev.Florence

     

    Daley and deputy chairman Julian Daniel of the Montserrat Complaints Commission but it regretted that the Public

     

    Defender of Jamaica ,Parliamentary Commissioner of St.Lucia and Ombudsman of Grenada were unavoidable absent from the Conference.

     

    The Ombudsman of St.Maarten and her team of organisers were congratulated on a successful and well run Conference.
