New York: Cultural reggae artist Queen Ifrica is coming to the Big Apple this summer. The Queen will be make her first major outdoor festival appearance in New York for the 2013 'Groovin in The Park' concert which takes place on Sunday, June 30th. Other acts confirmed for the festival are R&B icon Patti La Belle, super group TGT (Tyrese, Ginuwine, Tank), Cocoa Tea, Barrington Levy, Sanchez and Toots & the Maytals.
"Queen Ifrica's long awaited appearance will help the festival attract traditional reggae/dancehall lovers as well as mainstream fans who have now embraced music from the islands", Chris Roberts, founder and executive producer of Grooving In The Park stated.
"She has established herself as a top notch artiste from the Caribbean and she has consistently demonstrated her ability to score hit songs with 'Below The Waist' and 'Daddy and other classic gems" Roberts continued.
Born Ventrice Morgan, Queen Ifrica began her career in 1995 after a titillating performance at a local talent contest in Montego Bay, Jamaica that had music lovers singing her praises. Her eye-popping performance opened up doors for her and eventually led to major opportunities including her Reggae Sumfest debut in 1998.
With her roots firmly secured in the Rastafarian faith, Ifrica quickly blossomed into one of the top female cultural artists in the business. She stormed the radio airwaves with a slew of hits like “Jus my Brethren”, “Below the Waist” and “Daddy.”
"My proudest accomplishment come from the fans who are positively impacted by songs like 'Daddy,' 'Lioness On The Rise,' and 'Nah Rub.' Fans have made them their own and have taken action with the messages on many different levels - from governmental to personal. To see the child protective agency and other such organizations call and ask permission for the use of the songs and lyrics in their educational and promotional campaigns is a worthwhile accomplishment" she gushed.
On stage Ifrica has delivered many commanding performances at major festivals around the world including the Montreal Reggae Festival in Canada, Summer Jam in Germany, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and the Bob Marley Festival. But despite this international visibility, New Yorkers have never had a chance to fully enjoy the on stage mastery and the regal showmanship of Queen Ifrica.
"Due to the fact that so many people from the Caribbean and reggae music lovers live in the New York area, I have a special love to perform there. Maybe its knowing that many of my fans will come out and we love to connect with the people so we look forward to it" she said.
With a growing fans base and familiar hits to boot, the Fyah Muma is primed and ready to blaze the stage with a sensational performance.
