The PAM recognizes the invaluable contribution that the Sugar Industry and its workers have made to the Social and Economic development of our nation.
The PAM is disappointed with the Hon. Minister of Agriculture, Cedric Liburd and the Labour Party with the presentation made last evening on the state owned radio and Television. The deliberations brought no hope for the sugar workers. The Minister provided no new information on the closure of the Sugar Industry 7 weeks before its demise.
The PAM some one year ago outlined its policy as regards the closure of the Sugar Industry and the benefits to be derived by sugar workers.
The benefits listed included but was not limited to:
(a) $40,000.00 - $100,000.00 for each sugar worker.
(b) 3-5 acres of land for each sugar worker.
(c) Establishment of an Employment Guaranteed Scheme that could provide workers with a guaranteed income for up to a maximum of three years during the transition period.
PAM calls on all sugar workers to demand Labours position now and to ensure proper benefits for their contributions to the economic development of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis
