BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITHIN a month’s time, the full slate of candidates to contest the upcoming General Elections for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) would be announced, and a top-ranking official has confirmed that Konris Maynard is being considered as a replacement for the current St. Christopher Three Parliamentary Representative, the Hon. Sam Condor.

Deputy Chairman of the SKNLP, the Hon. Nigel Carty, in an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, explained that in Constituencies Three, Seven and Eight, the relevant processes to finalise candidacy would be completed shortly.

Some weeks ago, SKNVibes spoke with Konris ‘King Konris’ Maynard following abundant rumours which suggested that he was either approached about or was considering contesting the upcoming General Elections in Constituency Number Three for the SKNLP.

Maynard told this publication that he is considering and weighing his options and is willing to serve his country in whatever capacity he could.

Carty however confirmed that Maynard is indeed one of the individuals being considered to contest the seat for the SKNLP and that his opponent in that regard is Attorney General the Hon. Jason Hamilton.

“Yes, those persons are being considered. There was another name that was put forward originally. I am not certain whether that person has an interest still and I will not declare his name, because I had not had any interaction neither have I see any further evidence of his willingness to go through the process. And, so to be fair to him, I wouldn’t want to make a declaration as to what the name of the person is.”

Regarding St. Christopher Seven, a seat which is currently represented by Government Backbencher the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris, Carty explained that Dr. Vance Gilbert’s name was the only one that was “officially” forwarded by the Branch.

“In respect of Number Seven, yes, indeed Dr. Vance Gilbert was the only name put forward formally from the Branch, but I do know that looking at the overall process which would have led to a conclusion with the respect to Dr. Gilbert, there were other persons whose names came forward informally and who were also considered.”

The list for Constituency Number Eight seems to have had the most names on it, according to Carty.

“In respect of Constituency Number Eight, there are several persons who are up for consideration…When the list was put forward, there were two females among them and Cedric Liburd was also among the persons who were listed…”

Ask how far along with the processes the SKNLP has gotten and when it is likely that the representatives would be selected and presented to the public, Carty informed that he could not spell out a definite timeline but explained that all processes should be completed within one month’s time.

“I think we are just working on some analyses and, once those analyses are done, we are going to be in a position to have final interviews with the potential candidates and the selection process completed. It is very clear that the process would be completed within a month or so, but I am certain that long before that it would be through.”

As it stands, Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Asim Martin is the SKNLP’s candidate for St. Christopher One, the Hon. Marcella Liburd for Number Two and the Hon. Glenn Phillip is the candidate for St. Christopher Four.

Constituency Number Six would be represented by Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Constituency Number Five is expected to be represented by Dr. Norgen Wilson.
