Human Resources, Training Division Hold 4th Annual Planning Day

~~Adz:Right~~ Roadtown, Tortola - The staff of the Department of Human Resources and Training Division have charted out their core initiatives for 2009 aligned with the departments’ strategic intent and the needs of their internal and external customers.

They did so at the fourth annual Planning Day held on November 13, which focused on increasing partnership and ownership of the departments’ work plan; reviewing human resources business process improvements; greater service orientation and leadership and team building.

The Deputy Governor, Mrs. Inez Archibald commended the departments for their initiative in taking a holistic approach to developing their annual work plan and reviewing their business process to institute improvements.  “There is the need to continue to maximise to the fullest extent possible, the ideas, talents and skills of every member of staff. Workshops such as these are good vehicles for team-building and empowering staff. They also serve to achieve departmental goals and objectives in a collaborative, meaningful and personal way,” she said.

Acting Deputy Director of the Department of Human Resources Mrs. Michelle Donovan-Stevens noted that the staff of both departments collectively re-evaluated and considered ways to streamline services and generate new ideas.

“All members of our team examined areas of cross functionality and how it may be used to transform our organisation’s work. Through this and other activities the team gained an enhanced understanding on how best to design and execute programmes and initiatives that meet customers’ needs while progressing the business in the public service and beyond” she said.

This year’s planning day was held at Lambert Beach Resort and was facilitated by Mr. Haldene Davies of Orion Consultancy Services.

The departments’ 2009 work plans will be published in January next year.
