BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 03, 2013 (SKNIS): At a brief yet significant ceremony, Franklin Anderson Browne of Nevis was invested as a Member of the British Empire at Government House, yesterday.

With the official pinning of the MBE Insignia to the jacket by His Excellency Governor General Sir Edmund Wickham Lawrence and the handing over of the official documentation from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the honouree can now be formally referred to as Franklin Browne MBE.

Mr. Browne’s primary accomplishments over the decades from 1943 to 1983 were in the field of education.  He began as a pupil teacher and climbed the ranks, at one point becoming a Lecturer at the University of the West Indies where he taught Teachers’ Courses.

“His success during his teaching and administration years can be attributed to his management style, his sense of humour and his befriending the parents,” Mr. Browne’s tribute noted.  “Overtime he gained their [the parents] strong support which was needed to effectively manage the school.  Mr. Browne was instrumental in introducing the College Preceptors Exam at New River.  He was the first to introduce Sports Day in athletics and organized cricket matches among all the schools on Friday afternoons.”

The recent MBE recipient is also known to measure his achievements by the attainments of his students.  He is often known to state:

“I have produced doctors, lawyers, teachers, masons, carpenters – and some of the finest in the world.”

The Investiture of Franklin Anderson Browne MBE was witnessed by family and friends including his wife, daughter and grandson.
