BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ‘STREETS Ah Get Ugly’ is the name of Tuesday night’s (June 4) fresh recorded song by Vybz featuring Footsy, which is expected to be officially released on Freedom FM tonight (June 6).
The song was recorded at Nasa Studio in New Road, St. Peter’s on a Reggae rhythm called ‘Salvation Riddim’.
SKNVibes spoke with both uprising national artistes, 19-year-old Shakier ‘Vybz’ Challenger and 24-year-old Akeem ‘Footsy’ Manners, who highlighted that the song is based on all major problems affecting St. Kitts-Nevis, including crime, child abuse and domestic violence, in seeking to send out a positive message.
As gathered, both artistes naturally collaborated on such a song since they are around each other on regular basis.
Vybz pointed out that the song’s title, ‘Streets Ah Get Ugly’, “started speaking before we even got into the verses...so the title speaks the whole concept of the song. I got this title a week ago while I was sitting in the back of my yard on a high meditation, thinking about all these things that been happening lately in St. Kitts and Nevis; and it stands because its true and real”.
Vybz shared that he has been paying attention to the negative livelihood of some people.
“I've been sitting back a while observing the life some people of St. Kitts are living, and it’s really hard. And so it happened that a week ago Jah hit me with a vibe to push on forward to spread a positive message out to the streets to guide the youths and to strengthen the people to be more positive and to fight for their rights.”
He was asked about the purpose of the song.
“This song is to wise up the people to make them think beyond the fact that things are really rough.”
Vybz said he had already put together the chorus and title before the song he and his music business brother collaborated.
“I already had the chorus to the song and the title, so it was just for us to write verses for the song and video will also be on the go soon.”
Footsy spoke about the lyrics he brought to the song.
“Well, this song was all Vybz’s idea and because Footsy Manners Music is a mentor, an icon to the youths of my Federation, he asked me to feature on this track. The lyrics of the song from Footsy Manners Music were just simply reality, basing on what's going on in my Federation and the way how I feel our youths of today are dealing with their situations.”
He outlined that “the purpose of this song is to bring out the positive message to the teenagers and mid-20s youth of today”.
Footsy called on all citizens and residents in the Federation to live as one in peace and love.
“All I want for people to do is live as one black, white, Spanish, English French, etc; just live in unity.”
