Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 09, 2005): The transformation of Warner Park into a top-class sporting arena remains on schedule.
The Chief Executive Officer of Cricket World Cup St. Kitts-Nevis Ltd., Horatio Versailles, during an interview for SKNIS In Touch, noted that the work has been progressing very well.
The foundation for the players pavilion is 100 percent complete and its steel frame erection is 98 percent complete, he disclosed. The foundation for sponsor boxes is 98 percent complete. The steel frame erection for the media building is also 98 percent complete.
In addition the walls and floor slab for the media center is 40 percent complete. Next month & we will be laying the (cricket) pitches at Warner Park so we are on track and on schedule, Versailles stressed.
The Conaree Playing Field, which is also under construction, will be used as a practice facility for the Australian, South African and two other cricket teams that will be based here in the first round of the 2007 Cricket World Cup (CWC).
The outfield grassing (of the Conaree ground) is complete and the perimeter drainage is almost complete, the CEO revealed.
An army of volunteers will be needed to implement what is considered by many to be the greatest undertaking in the history of cricket in the West Indies. Mr. Versailles noted that the volunteer programme is being planned this year to be implemented in 2006.
We are accepting (names of) persons willing to volunteer right now but next year & we will have training exercises for our volunteer, he indicated, explaining that the programme will be standardized for all eight CWC venues.
Mr. Versailles indicated that ongoing infrastructural projects will ensure the Federation meets all bid requirements and expressed confidence that St. Kitts and Nevis will be ready to welcome the world in 2007.
