    Hundreds march against domestic violence

~~Adz:Right~~ SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – HUNDREDS of students, teachers and parents flooded the streets on Wednesday (Nov. 19) in the areas surrounding the Mirador Park marching, chanting and carrying placards all bearing the same message – ‘Zero Tolerance towards Violence against Women’.

The march, organized by the Ministry of Justice, started at the park near the capital and concluded in front the Palace of Justice, in the Centro de los Heroes. The public display      served to sensitize the public of the ‘no-tolerance’ stance the government has taken in dealing with domestic violence.

According to Dominica Today, the Minister of Gender Affairs Alejandrina Germa'n stressed the importance of lobbying for the equality between men and women in the home to “reach society’s integral development”. She also noted that the march was critical and aimed to draw attention to the problem.

The march received an overwhelming response and drew hundreds of onlookers. According to the media report, due to the success of the march the Minister of Justice is expected to increase the measures to fight against domestic violence.
