BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DELPHIC Newtown United have increased their lead in the Digicel Premier following a convincing 4-nil victory over Harris Paint St. Peter’s, while rivals S.L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s dropped points in a hard fought draw with SPD United.
The first match played on Saturday (June 8) at the Warner Park Stadium, saw S.L. Horsford St. Paul’s fighting back from a goal down to earn a draw against SPD which took a shock lead late in the first half through a strike from Steven Nolan in the 42nd minute to go into halftime with an advantage.
However, St. Paul’s fought back in the second half and equalised the game through Rasheed Hodge’s 51st minute goal.
The game however took a dramatic twist when St. Paul’s had the ball in the back of the nets for a second time but the goal was disallowed, as the ball was help across the line by the hand of one the former champions’ players.
Kennedy Douglas, S.L. Horsford St. Paul’s physiotherapist, was expelled from the bench in the 75th minute.
Officials were Kimbel Ward, Mario Parry, O'Brien Clarke and Tristley Bassue.
The second match, played on the same day and also at the same venue, saw Delphic Newtown United whipping Harris Paint St. Peters 4-nil, thanks to an impressive performance from Kennedy Isles who contributed a hat trick.
Isles opened the scoring in the 8th minute and doubled the advantage in the 26th.
Newtown’s dominance continued in the second half when they were awarded a penalty, but Oldain Powell’s shot was well saved by Jonel Turner of St. Peter’s. The relentless Powell however redeemed himself with a 68th minute goal.
Isles then completed his hat trick in the 89th minute to give his team a 4-nil victory.
Keandrea Battice of Newtown was given a red card in the 71st minute.
Officials were Caldon Duncan, Ike Inniss, Delroy Jeffers and Steadroy Techeira.
On the following day, RAMS Village Superstars leaped frogged S.L. Hosford’s to move into third place after they defeated St. Thomas Trinity Strikers 2-nil.
Scoring for RAMSVillage Superstars were Joel Jeffers in the 24th minute and Steve Clarke in the 56th.
Officials were James Matthew, Graeme Browne, Caldon Duncan and Tristley Bassue.
In the second game, Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs thrashed Mantab 5-2.
Timothy Smith opened the scoring in the 14th minute for Garden Hotspurs which was followed by goals from Rovan Wigley in the 23rd minute and Carlos Bertie in the 33rd.
Scoring for Mantab was Darrell Challenger in the 36th minute and Eldean Huggins in the 45th.
Wigley then struck again in the 81st minute for spurs before the scoring was rounded up in the 87th minute by Shervin Allen.
Officials were Tristley Bassue, Florencetine Morton, Graeme Browne snd Lloyd Rouse.
