Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 9, 2005): Early Childhood Coordinator Mrs Vanta Walters and staff are hosting Antiguas early childhood coordinator and team this week.
Mrs. Walters explained that her Antiguan guests are observing the local Early Childhood Programme as one which employs best practices with a view toward re-organising the Antiguan model.
She said that apart from the Federations proximity to Antigua, the local programme came highly recommended by UNICEF as one of the best in the region.
The Antiguan team, lead by Earla Esdaille, a native of St. Kitts residing in Antigua, has expressed its amazement with the high quality of early childhood education in the Federation which they observed during tours of centres.
The team have held discussions with Mrs Vanta Walters and her staff; paid a courtesy call on Chief Education Officer Mr. Charles Welcome and spent a large portion of this morning observing at the Industrial Site Day Care Centre.
The visiting guests are taking the opportunity to participate in Early Childhood Month activities and will be attending Dancamasing, a combination of dance, drama and singing being held at the Carnival City later today.
Preschoolers will perform in these three areas while nursery children will depict flowers of the nation.
The team hopes also to incorporate ideas to upgrade their childmonth activities as well.
Tomorrow the team will accompany 75 local early childhood educators to Nevis for the Child Month Parade there.
