BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have made a breakthrough in the shooting-death of Sheldon ‘Sword’ Cannonier and three men have recently been slapped with the capital charge, according to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David.

The three men are Sylvester ‘Syl’ Crossley of Fort Thomas Road, Basseterre, Shane Amory of New Road Housing and Vance Thomas of Fort Thomas Road, Basseterre, and they have since appeared before a City Magistrate who remanded them to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Cannonier was gunned down execution-style shortly after 12 noon on Sunday (June 2) after attending a church service in Lime Kiln.

Sources close to Cannonier informed that he had attended the mid-morning Service at The Rivers of Living Water Christian Center in Lime Kiln.

However, after exiting the church and heading towards the Good News Baptist Church to meet his daughter, a number of armed men approached and shot him to death.

The 31-year-old of Neverson Street East, Newton, Basseterre was pronounced dead on the scene by the District Medical Officer.

According to eyewitness account, two vehicles and two masked men were involved in his death.

On condition of anonymity, the eyewitness said, “I was walking out from church, and as I walked up the road I saw two cars pulled up. One was blocking the young man’s passage and two fellows exited the other. They had on masks.

“They first fired two shots and when he fell down they went over him and continued shooting. After they finished shooting both cars sped away and the guys ran into the bushes on the eastern side.”

On Tuesday (June 4), Barbados-based Forensic Pathologist Dr. Stephen Jones performed an autopsy on the body of Cannonier and revealed that death was due to gunshot injuries to his head.

Just under seven months ago (Nov. 27), Crossley and Thomas, who were jointly charged with the murder of 29-year-old Miguel ‘Bashment’ Robinson of Lime Kiln, were set free by Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe at a Preliminary Inquiry after being incarcerated for more than nine months.
