GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 8th, 2013 – St. Kitts & Nevis beat Aruba by 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-13) for their first win in the NORCECA second-round Group L tournament a qualification event to the 2014 Women’s FIVB World Championship.
With two outings St. Kitts & Nevis sustain a 1-1 win-loss mark while Aruba remains winless.
After their loss to Guatemala earlier on Saturday, St. Kitts’ performance was more solid taking over Aruba in 59 minutes with advantage in spikes by 35-14 and 4-1 in aces. Aruba was better in the blocking category by one point (6-5).
With 15 tallies each, Shanicia Dyer and Brenda Allen were the best scorers for St. Kitts & Nevis. Jackie Toussaint led Aruba with 10 points.
Antoinette Henry for St. Kitts & Nevis was content saying “we played better as we’re adjusting to Guatemala’s atmosphere and environment; I hope tomorrow we’ll improve more”.
“Our lack of communication has been crucial as well as our mistakes in critical moments. I congratulate St. Kitts & Nevis for a job well done” said Jackie Toussaint.
“The urgency to win this match helped the girl’s improvement from this morning. Aruba is a promising team” expressed Steadroy “Star” Collins.
Igmar Ogenia, Aruba’s coach indicated “after what I saw of St. Kitts’ previous match, they had more unity while we miss that, congratulations to them. This is a great experience for us and we’ll fight Guatemala hard tomorrow”.
