GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 9, 2013 - St. Kitts & Nevis beat Aruba 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) finishing in third place at the NORCECA second-round Group L qualifier to the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship.
The scores in each set remained close as St. Kitts & Nevis held little advantage in serves (6-5) and committed fewer errors (23-39) to take home the bronze. Winless Aruba was better in the blocking category (4-3).
Allen Brenda of St. Kitts & Nevis and Jackie Toussaint of Aruba were the best scorers with 13 points apiece.
“We were relaxed but not enough to recover when Aruba began to push stronger and I believe this was their best match in the tournament” said Antoinette Henry captain of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Jackie Toussaint said “I’m a bit disappointed because I know the girls can do better, they are very talented. We really wanted to win but our errors were too many.”
“Both teams wanted to win and be in the podium, that’s why the scores were very close” indicated “Star” Collins, coach of the winners.
Igmar Ogenia, Aruba’s coach was satisfied with his team but also knows that they could’ve done better “we committed mistakes giving away valuable points”.
