BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A past performer of the St. Kitts Music Festival, internationally-recognised Trinidadian Soca superstar Machel Montano, is expected to open his M Store on Monday (June 17) at the Piarco International Airport in Trinidad.

A Trinidad and Tobago online media house, etceterabuzz.com,  highlighted that in its attempts to get more information on what the store would be all about, “only managed to find out that the spanking new M Store will be launched on June 17th to specially invited guests and only then will the public be made aware of what merchandise can be purchased at the store, thereafter”.

It was reported that Montano’s mother, Elizabeth Montano, said a lot is being done behind the scenes to accomplish the task at hand.

“I have a lot I’m dealing with right now and I have to keep things in order in my head, but I will tell you that the launch is on June 17. We’ll reveal everything then,” she said.

According to that media site, “this latest initiative comes on the heels of the artiste signing a licensing/publishing contract with Universal Music France affiliate AZ and an agreement with the company’s management arm – the Olympia Agency”.

It was recently revealed that Machel Montano also signed on to star in a Bollywood movie called Scandalous and that he shared the stage with some of music’s biggest superstars in March at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

The online media house also mentioned the assault case involving the 36-year-old Soca star, stating that “Montano has certainly shown a high level of resilience in recent months, having survived public scrutiny in the aftermath of the judgment passed in the case involving he and super producer, Kernal Roberts”.

“A slap on the wrist as some described it, having been fined less than 30,000TTD in the assault case, has since seen Montano take on a renewed level of passion for life and its endless opportunities to excel, it would seem,”  the writer of the article expressed.

Meanwhile, in a separate article, dated February 25, by that Trinidad and Tobago media house, it was reported that Montano had been ordered to pay a total of $27 200 in fines and compensation in the assault case which saw victim Russel Pollanais hospitalised for some time.

Reportedly, he was found guilty on five charges. Four of which were for assaulting Zen Night Club patrons Gerard Bowrin, Brandis Browne, Janelle Lee Chee and Russell Pollonais in April 2007, and the fifth one for the use of obscene language.

Fellow accused Kernel Roberts, the son of the late Lord Aldwyn ‘Kitchener’ Roberts, was also sentenced and ordered to pay a total of $24 000 in fines and compensation.

Machel Montano gave one of the hottest performances at last year’s 16th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival. His debut performance was in 2005.

To date, some of his hits include ‘Fog’, ‘Mr. Fete’, ‘Bottle of Rum’ and ‘Float’.
