BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A top-level member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has confirmed that popular criminal defence lawyer John Cato was arrested and charged with a criminal offence.
The confirmation was given by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Stafford Liburd who – in an interview with SKNVibes – indicated that Cato was taken into police custody this afternoon (June 13) and was subsequently charged with fraudulent conversion and, according to other information which this publication received, the alleged offence involves some $150 000.
DCP Liburd further indicated that the alleged offence transpired sometime in 2010.
He also informed that relative to the matter, members of the RSCNPF had reason to and carried out a number of searches.
SKNVibes was reliably informed that Cato was able to secure bail to the tune of $200 000 with two sureties at one of the Courts in the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Services Complex, Basseterre.
