CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - POPULAR local farmer Mervin ‘Mansa’ Tyson yesterday told SKNVibes that the late Llewelyn Martin was a friendly and honest individual.
Martin, a resident of Cotton Ground whose partly decomposed body was found on its back in pool of blood, died of multiple wounds to his abdomen and neck, according to an official police report.
Tyson said Martin was a cleaner at his Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Store and also ran errands on Mansa’s Farm. He also noted that Martin’s body was found on the floor of his bedroom.
“I feel very sad. Why him? He was good to everybody.” Tyson said. Martin has a number of siblings and a mother whom he visited often in Jessups, the village from which he originated. Martin was not married but Tyson recalled him saying that he had a child in St. Thomas. He had been working with Tyson for over three years.
According to Tyson, his employee loved his “bottle and cigarettes but troubled nobody”. Martin’s neighbours, friends and associates also remember that he was a Concerned Citizens Movement’s (CCM) supporter and often wore a blue T-shirt, but they also confirmed that he was not hostile to those not affiliated to his party.

According to Tyson, Martin left the farm at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, the day he is alleged to have been murdered. Tyson also said that he normally pays him on Saturdays.
Martin’s remains were interred yesterday afternoon at the Bath Cemetery due to its decomposed state. An autopsy was performed on his body yesterday by Resident Pathologist Dr. Jesus Debrok, but this media house was unable to get the results.
However, police are treating his death as a homicide and a man is currently in custody assisting them with investigations.
