BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ST. KITTS AND NEVIS now have another sprint star to look forward to while seeking more track and field accolades.
Outstanding Collegiate track and field athlete Omhunique Browne, who has decided to represent St. Kitts and Nevis instead of her native home the United States of America, has explained her reasons for opting to represent the twin-island Federation
Despite being born in the USA, Browne is eligible to compete for the twin-island Federation because it is the birthplace of her father.
She currently attends the Pasadena City College and is the school’s first female athlete to have won two CCCAA State titles in the same meet.
In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Browne when asked to describe herself, said: “I am a winner and my name says it all. I am one of a kind!”
Browne was also asked why she chose to represent St. Kitts and Nevis in international competitions instead of the United States.
“I chose to represent St. Kitts because growing up when I started track at age seven, I used to hear my dad talk about St. Kitts this and St. Kitts that... so I think the best thing to give back to my dad was to represent St. Kitts and Nevis.
“I want to move to the island and, even though I am not from here, this is my home.”
Browne was also asked what kind of performances can the Kittitian and Nevisian public expect from her.
“Who knows? But expect something big!” she replied.
She also gave a rundown of some of the events in which she competes.
“I participate in the 100 metres and the 200 metres. I can run the 400 and I do the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.”
Browne recently took part in St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association’s National Invitational and Club Championships where she outclassed her opponents in the 100 and 200 metres.
