BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PAST outcries from members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for a better working environment seem to have been hard, and evidence lies in the ongoing renovation being carried out at the Force’s Headquarters in Basseterre.

A press release issued by the Force’s Press and Public Relations Office yesterday informs that work is currently being done to the Guard Room which has been temporarily relocated.

Commissioner of Police Austin Williams, in an interview with SKNVibes, explained that this is part of an overall project to improve working conditions at Police Headquarters.

He explained that in the not too distant past, some form of renovation has been undertaken in offices of the Commissioner, the Assistant Commissioner, the secretary of the Deputy Commissioner and also to the general interior of the structure and two of the barrack rooms of that building. The revamping of the Guard Room, he added, is just the next phase in the process.

Although he did not give any details as to exactly what would be done to the Guard Room, Commissioner Williams informed that the next step, after that area would have been completed, is the Recreation Room.

The general improvement of the aesthetics of the building, as the Top Cop, would serve to boost the spirits of the police officers as well as create a more amicable atmosphere which would encourage a greater police-public relationship.

“We are currently improving the living conditions and physical appearance of the accommodation and recreation facilities of the police.

What we have done is raise the morale of the officers and, with the upgrade of the guard room, it is hoped that it will create a more friendly environment for the public to do business with us. It is also to improve the working conditions for the officers.”

A police press release informs that owing to the renovations to the Guard Room it “is still located inside but to the left of the old guard room”.

“The High Command of The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force apologises for any inconvenience that this process might bring about and will like to thank you in advance for your continued understanding and appreciation,” the release said.
