June 20th, 2013 -- On Sunday June 16, 2013, Green Valley Global, a community focused, not for profit organization based in New York City, along with over 100 guests, paid homage to one of the federation's most prolific entertainers, Mr. Lincoln "Santoy" Swanston, during its annual Father's Day celebration.
Santoy, as he is affectionately known, is an extremely kind hearted, generous and free spirited man who has an unwavering love for community, country and for others. He is not one to tout his accomplishments nor is he one to put others down. He is a humble husband, a doting dad, a beloved brother and a faithful friend. He is one of a kind.
Lincoln "Santoy" Swanston, the man who wears many hats and who has volunteered his services for various community initiatives at home and particularly in the New York area, is suffering with a debilitating illness that will require him to undergo several surgeries to help alleviate many of the painful symptoms he currently experiences as a result of this illness.
Honoring and supporting this community giant was in part a collaboration of well wishers and supporters from various organizations in New York City, as well as family and friends who can attest to the lifelong service Mr. Swanston has rendered to his community and country. The humble and witty entertainer was clearly moved by the expression of thanks and honor bestowed on him.
Sunday's event was dubbed "You and Your Health" and the organizers focused on health awareness, a very sensitive aspect of our human existence which requires individual and collective involvement. As an organization, Green Valley Global is committed to vigorously exploring the various ways in which it can provide valuable services to citizens of the federation at home and abroad. Sunday's initiative was testimony to the organization's efforts.
The evening was packed with an array of exciting entertainment that included the 11 year old, extremely talented and musically adept Kenijah "Najee" Georges on the Saxaphone, a masterful mix of musicians who kept the audience enlivened and fully entertained, a brief belly filling comedic segment by entertainer extraordinaire Delbert Gumbs, a lyrical line up of savvy singing dads during the calypso bacchanal, a delightfully eye catching and delicious spread of appetizers, food and desserts, and a brief but rather insightful presentation on health and health awareness presented by Dr. Spencer Eugene Amory.
Dr. Amory used the opportunity to expound on the challenges facing our communities, making special mention of the various forms of cancers prevalent among our people. He stated emphatically that collective work must be done in the federation and abroad in order to address not only cancer but also the many other health maladies from which we suffer as a nation.
Dr. Amory encouraged greater involvement in small farming and a renewed interest in "eating local" as he deems it healthier and certainly more practical. To his mind, it is our commitment to health awareness and prevention that will set our nation on a clearer path with a greater ability to minimize the occurrences of many of today's rampant diseases. The audience was enlightened and encouraged to take action.
The highly anticipated calypso bacchanal did not disappoint the patrons. Four calypsonians delivered heavy hitting and lyrically thumping songs much to the delight of the eager audience. Lord Kent, Green T, King Feddy and The Mighty Lennox sang their hearts out for the attentive and engaged audience and while all of the calypsonians were very well received, Green T's song "Say A Prayer" seemed to be the night's crowd pleaser, as he was called upon for an encore performance.
Green Valley Global presented Mr. Swanston with an appreciation plaque. Three of the organization’s musical partners namely, Trevor Bridgewater, Kenrick Georges and Delbert Gumbs, were also presented with appreciation awards. These men are some of our nation's treasures whose love for music and the arts is immeasurable.
Green Valley Global's President Ms. Glennis "P" Belgrove-Phoenix chaired the night's proceedings, The President of the New York St. Peter’s Alumni, Mrs. Maureen Rouse offered the opening prayer, Delores Wilkes introduced Dr. Amory, Heather Archibald introduced the night's honoree, Mr. Lincoln Swanston, and Vice President, Lennox Liburd brought the curtains down with the Vote of Thanks. The event ended on a high note shortly after 10pm.
The members and organizers of the Green Valley Global organization extend sincere appreciation to every patron who turned out in support of the honoree, Mr. Lincoln "Santoy" Swanston, another son of the soil who has served his community and country with honour.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to Mr. Lincoln "Santoy" Swanston.
Best wishes to him and his entire family.
