BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RESOUNDING endorsements for the People’s Labour Party (PLP) were heralded last evening (Jun. 19) across Greenlands Park, local radio stations and the internet during the party’s introductory public meeting.

The seals of approval were given by Terrence Zikoma Condor, son of the party’s Deputy Leader the Hon. Sam Condor, and Dr. Anthony Sebastian, son of the former Governor General of the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis, Sir Cuthbert Sebastian.

These were broadcast as pre-recorded video clips viewed by the Greenlands audience and internet viewers by projector and big screen.

Dr. Sebastian was careful to explain that he was making his address not as the grandson of the founding father of the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union, the Hon. Joseph Matthew Sebastian, or as the son of Sir Cuthbert, but rather a son of the soil concerned with the direction in which “the current leadership is taking the country”.

He said men such as the Rt. Excellent Robert L. Bradshaw and Sir Caleb Paul A. Southwell – under whose leadership he grew up – were “unselfish in their commitment and dedication to people of our Federation” and were men who “had the single focus of advancing our society through education, better housing and the opportunity for each person to participate in the economic and social development of the country”.

Dr. Sebastian said those men did not use their public office as vehicles of personal enrichment and expressed his concern in which the current political leadership of the country is taking it.

“At the present time, many in St. Kitts and Nevis no longer feel that they can participate in the development of the country, as land and opportunity are sold to foreign interests. It is disheartening to see the direction that the political leadership is taking the country away from the promise of the social and financial liberation of ordinary folk.

“At the same time, it is uplifting to see that the country is becoming politically mature where once polarised political ideologies have given way to common sense and a united effort to bring people of diverse political beliefs on a common platform for the common good of all the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Dr. Sebastian said he supports Messrs. Harris and Condor for leading the effort towards political maturity.

“Because of this, I give my unequivocal support to Dr. Timothy Harris and the Hon. Sam Condor in spearheading this new political direction of unselfish dedication to the continued fight to uplift not just the individual efforts of some, but the collective will of the nation to self-fulfilment and community advancement.”

During his endorsement of his father, Terrance Zikoma Condor recalled the sacrifices his father made for his family, community and country, in a spirit of humility and grace that is second to none.

He described his father as a man of God and encouraged him to continue to let God be his guide, to remain humble and to be true to himself.

“I endorse you and support you and love you in everything you do, and I wish you all the best.”
