BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - RAMS VILLAGE SUPERSTARS have slowed down defending champions Delphic Newtown United with a 2-1 victory in a weekend game in the Digicel Premier League.

The weekend games started on Saturday (Jun. 15) At the Gardens Playing Field when SPD United upset Harris Paint St. Peters to give the newly-promoted side a critical three-point as they continue to battle relegation.

Alphonso Murray scored the game’s only goal in the 16th minute, shocking many football fans at the venue.

St. Peter’s however created ample opportunities but thanks to some superb goalkeeping by Carlos Powell which thwarted all of their efforts to score a goal.

Officials were Tristley Bassue, Delroy Jefffers, Graeme Browne and James Matthew.

In the second game on Saturday, second place Conaree took on fifth place S.L. Horsford St. Paul’s in a tense but exciting encounter which ended 2-all.

The game got off to a fast start with both teams trading blows, but the first major opportunity came when St. Paul’s was awarded a penalty in the 22nd minute which went awry off the boot of Josh Leader.

Michael Samuel of Conaree however opened the scoring following an incisive team break away to give Conaree the early lead going into half time.

A re-energised St. Paul’s came out of the half intent on levelling the score and was successful in doing so in the 65th minute when Javiem Blanchette tapped the ball passed Conaree’s goalkeeper.

Conaree’s however regained the lead amidst some controversy which led to penalty that was converted by Andy Liburd in 72nd minute.

With time running out and Conaree edging towards victory, a schoolboy error by a Conaree defender gifted the St. Paul’s team another penalty kick which was this time converted by Kevin Benjamin in the 89th minute.

Jahren Leader of St. Paul’s was red carded in the 86th minute while Austin ‘Dico’ Huggins and Glemerson Martins, Head Coach and Assistant Coach respectively of S.L. Horsford St. Paul’s, were both expelled from the bench in the 87th minute.

Officials were Caldon Duncan, Walter James, Ike Inniss and Steadroy Techeira.

On Sunday (Jun. 16) at the Warner Park Stadium, Mantab defeated Cayon FC 2-1, sending them closer to relegation.

Two first half goals by Kirae Jarvis and Eldeen Huggins in the 10th and 40th minutes respectively gave Mantab a solid half time advantage.

In the second half however, Kurt Morton gave Cayon a lifeline in the 50th minute but they could not get the equaliser.

Officials were Caldon Duncan, Cassim Akeem, Anthony Bergan and Nicola Clarke.

The second game featured arch rivals RAMS Village Superstars and Delphic Newtown United.

The game’s first goal came almost instantly when RAMS veteran striker Jevon Francis scored in the 1st minute and gave the 2011 champions an important lead in the thrilling encounter.

Their lead was doubled early in the second half following Travis Rogers’ 59th minute strike.

Needing a stimulus, Newtown received a 77th minute penalty which was scored by Oldain Powell, but his side struggle to gain any real momentum after that.

Officials were Tristley Bassue, Lloyd Rouse, Stedroy Douglas and Graeme Browne.

With the win, RAMSVillage Superstars now jump into second place trailing leaders Newtown by a solitary point; while SPD United distanced themselves from relegation as Cayon FC inch closer.
