Possible duty concessions on generators

Basseterre, St. Kitts – SKNVibes has it on good authority that the government will be granting duty concessions to locals importing generators between December of this year and January 2009.
This media house was today (Nov. 26) reliably informed of this by a source close to the Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas. The source indicated that a formal announcement would be made as soon as electricity officials could determine some guidelines as to the types of generators that can be brought in under concession.
The source did not specify however if the tax concession would be entirely (duty free) or partially removed from the Customs charges at the ports of entry.~~Adz:Right~~
The most common types of generators used for back-up power are portable gas generators, portable diesel generators, and portable electric generators. Portable diesel generators and portable gas generators are motors that, like those in cars, run on fuel.
It was revealed however that extremely large or commercial generators may not fall under the duty concession cap.
St. Kitts has been plagued with unscheduled power outages since an October fire at the Needsmust Power Station destroyed one and damaged another of the electrical plant’s generators.
