Pregnant woman, man taken to hospital following vehicular accident

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -  TWO individuals – including a pregnant woman – were taken to the hospital this afternoon (June 22) after the vehicles in which they travelled were involved in a collision.

Information which SKNVibes received from the Traffic Department indicates that at about 4:50p.m., a traffic accident occurred along the Island Main Road in Lamberts involving a motor omnibus and a motor truck.

SKNVibes understands that the omnibus (HA22) was being driven by Davis Glasgow of Halfway Tree and the truck (P1135) was being driven by Davin Benjamin of Romney Ground, Sandy Point.

The Traffic Department has reported that HA22 – which contained several passengers – was travelling towards Sandy Point and P1135 – which contained two individuals – was travelling in the opposition direction when a collision occurred.

The Department further informs that HA22 made an attempt to overtake another vehicle and apparently did not return to its rightful side quickly enough, which resulted in it colliding with the oncoming truck.

One passenger who was travelling in HA22 – the woman who is with child – was transported to the Pogson Hospital. And this publication understands that the Fire and Rescue Services Department was summoned to the scene to assist in extricating  an individual from the passenger side of the truck.

He was reportedly transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

The extent of injuries which might have been suffered by the individuals is not known to this publication. However both vehicles reportedly suffered extensive damage to their front right sides.

    Investigations are ongoing.
