BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association will embark on its second FIFA ‘Goal’ this weekend with a symbolic ground breaking ceremony to signal the start of construction of a technical centre.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday (Jun., 22) from 9:30 a.m. at the St. Peter’s Commercial Development, next to the St. Peter’s football field.

In an interview with SKNVibes, President of the SKNFA Anthony Johnson stated that the facility would offer an avenue for young footballers to develop their talent.

“Our young players will walk into an environment, namely the goal project, where they would be trained on a daily basis. They would be taught the rudiments of the game both on the field as well as in a classroom.

“They would be allowed to eat the right food and get proper rest in order to provide the standard that is expected at an international level.”

Johnson also explained that the facility would comprise a classroom, a theatre and an accommodation area to house overseas teams in an effort at reducing accommodation cost.

In attendance at the ground breaking ceremony will be CONCACAF President and FIFA Vice President Jeffrey Webb and CFU President Gordan Derrick.

The Goal Programme enables beneficiary member associations to implement projects designed to develop football in their countries. It is an expression of solidarity that gives national associations with few resources at their disposal the tools they need to function and grow.

Though each member association has the right to request funding for a project, the programme is essentially aimed at associations with the most pressing needs, yet without the resources to respond to them.

Goal projects can also provide additional funding for larger projects for which national associations have been able to raise part of the necessary funding.

The objectives of the Goal Programme are laid out in its regulations.

The Goal Programme supports projects tailored to the needs of member associations in the following areas:
    Administration
    Training
    Youth football
    Infrastructure
Other development projects catering for specific needs may also be considered.
