BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST days after Junior Officers of the St. Kitts-Nevis Customs and Excise Department had donned their new look uniform, their seniors also began sporting their own.

The Junior Officers’ uniform comprises a navy blue trousers or skirt, white shirt with the Customs insignia over the left breast pocket, a beret with the Customs badge and the badge of rank worn on the epaulettes.

In a release issued by Larry Vaughan, the Department’s Public Relations Officer, he stated that as of Monday (Jun. 17) Senior Managers of the Customs and Excise Department “of the ranks Comptroller of Customs, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Senior Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Customs Accountant and Administration and Research Officer began to sport the new look uniform”.

Vaughan noted that the designated outfit is made up of matching navy blue tops and trousers or skirts, worn with a Customs shield over the left breast pocket, double lanyard, and a beret.

He explained that badges of rank have been assigned to each level of the Department’s management team and the design for each was extracted from the revised Customs logo that would be officially unveiled in the third quarter of this year.

He also explained that the primary purposes of the uniform is to help further instill discipline in Customs Officers at all level and to assist members of the general public to readily identify all of the Department’s employees at every rank.

The PRO stated that the purpose of the new look is an integral part of the rebranding of the Department.

“For some time, the general public has considered Customs solely as a tax collection arm of the government. While tax collection is a role of the Department, our aim is to raise the awareness that Customs is a border security agency and a key player in the facilitation of trade.”

On behalf of the Department, Vaughan thanked the people of St. Kitts and Nevis for the rave reviews they have given on the new management uniforms as well as on the berets worn by all officers.

“We take this effort to recommit ourselves and the Department to the service of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” he added.
