Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 24, 2013 (SKNIS): The experiences, successes, gaps and lessons learned by St. Kitts and Nevis and the four countries that tested the Creativity for Employment and Business Opportunity (CEBO) manual were reviewed at a June 20-22 meeting held at the Marriott Courtyard in Trinidad.
Senior Youth Officer Pierre Liburd was joined by the two trained local CEBO facilitators Ervin Welsh and Ian Richards in presenting the Federation’s perspective which was drawn from three separate entrepreneurship trainings held in Sandy Point and St. Johnston Village in St. Kitts and Cotton Ground, Nevis.
At the CEBO sub-regional review meeting, the trio shared interesting view points along with representatives from other pilot countries namely Jamaica, Belize, Dominica and the Bahamas. The information exchanged between participants and representatives of the CARICOM Secretariat lead by Dr. Hilary Brown, Programme Manager for Culture and Community Development, was described as “insightful.”
An intensive review of the CEBO participant and facilitator manuals was also undertaken. Consultant Lisa Callender collated the information as part of her mandate to evaluate the project. She is scheduled to visit each pilot country in the coming weeks to meet further with local organisers and successful CEBO graduates.
Mr. Liburd said he looks forward to the completion of the review process so that the manual can be finalized and the programme rolled out on a larger scale locally and across the region.
Dr. Brown noted that the CARICOM Secretariat remains committed to CEBO and is currently securing finances to expand the entrepreneurial initiative.
