BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OWNER of Leyton Microcomputer Services Carol Ottley-Mitchell has joined the fold of Caribbean authors with the official launch of her first book ‘Adventure at Brimstone Hill’ at the Old Treasury Building on the Bay Road yesterday (Nov. 26) afternoon.

The book is the first instalment of the Caribbean Adventure Series created by Ottley-Mitchell for young readers. A brief opening ceremony was held to commemorate Ottley-Mitchell’s first foray into the world of writing and included remarks from President of the Brimstone Hill National Fortress Park Society Sir Probyn Innis. Innis commended her for taking “this very challenging step”.

“Writing is a very demanding profession; it requires dedication, many lonely hours of thought and giving your imagination the free rein that it needs in order to tell a good story.

“[She has] been able to weave historical research with her own creative imagination and has created something that is highly readable. I hope that she receives the success her effort deserves,” said Innis.~~Adz:Right~~

He noted that the launch of the Caribbean Adventure Series “emphasised that there is a lot of talent here in St. Kitts and in the Caribbean, but that usually it is latent or hidden and that’s why people must appreciate those who motivate and inspire others to share and use their talent”.

Ottley-Mitchell revealed that she was overwhelmed by the support and encouragement she received and divulged that as there were already two more books in the pipeline, readers should give feedback on what other historical sites they’d like to see the book characters travel to.

“When children read they’re able to absorb words and envision pictures in their minds. I really want this book to be a success because then it would mean that our children are reading and growing,” she stated.

Presentations of the book were made to the St. Christopher Heritage Society, the Community Achievers Project, the Brimstone Hill National Fortress Park Society and the Charles A. Halbert Public Library.

Limited First Editions of Adventure at Brimstone Hill were available at the launch, with Ottley-Mitchell on hand to sign sold copies. The book is available at the Brimstone Hill National Fortress Park Bookstore, Law’s Bookstore, Harper’s Office Depot, Mini Walls and Chapter One Bookstore in Nevis.
