BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FOLLOWING what has been described as a successful and massive march for the cause of unity, a large crowd converged at the Independence Square for the culminating Rally in unity exercise.
Shouts of jubilation and cheers, which encompassed the message of unity, were heralded by the unity advocates as the Leaders of the People's Action Movement (PAM) and the People's Labour Party (PLP) drilled echoed words of familiarity, togetherness, change and encouragement.
Wife of Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Three, Eugenie Condor, described the march as a "vindication" by the people for whom they have stood.
She said former Parliamentarian Dwyer Astaphan and PLP Leaders the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris and Sam Condor fought valiantly for the people while they were part of the government and that the fight continues now that they are no longer part of the administration.
She reiterated that the "fight is on" and because the voice of the people is the voice of God, the wish of the people would prevail.
"This is the time for unity", was the shout of Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Eight the Hon. Eugene Hamilton, and as expressed by PAM's Constituency Number Two representative Jonel Powell, the unity machinery would be copping all of the eight seats in St. Kitts when the next General Elections are called.
Whetting the appetites of his supporters, PAM's Leader Shawn K. Richards said the cry of the people could be heard throughout the country, and one of things the Unity Government would implement if elected to power is the removal of the Value Added Tax (VAT) from food items.
The man of the hour seemed to have been the Leader of the PLP, Dr. Harris.
"We want Tim...we want Tim...we want Tim!" was the chant that filled the atmosphere, beckoning Harris to take the stage.
And his ascension to the platform was greeted with an eruption of cheers and applauses.
Dr. Harris professed his love for his country and the people thereof, and expressed his desire for the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis to be the best country with the best democracy.
His message, to who he described as "the dictator", is that his days in office are over.
He said the Federation is in need of change, unity and peace, all of which could be achieved with a unified front.
Functioning as Chair of the Rally, the words of PAM's Chairman Cyndie Demming and those of the PLP’s Dr. Thelma Phillip Browne corroborated the presentations of their colleagues.
Though brief, organisers of the March and Rally and other Leaders of the PAM and the PLP told SKNVibes that both were a resounding success and that it is evidence of impending change.
