Chilean Delegation to visit St Kitts – Bids to host the 2019 Pan American Games

By: SKNOC, Press Release

ST. KITTS, 27th June, 2013   --  Four (4) National Olympic Committees and their respective Cities have formally presented their bids to host the 2019 edition of the Pan American Games. They are NOCs of Chile, Argentina, Peru and Venezuela in the respective cities of Santiago de Chile, La Punta, Lima and Ciudad Bolivar.

All 42 NOCs/countries that comprise the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) have a vote to determine which country has the privilege of hosting the quadrennial Pan American Games with those NOCs/countries/cities that have hosted the Games previously enjoying multiple votes.

It is therefore not unusual to witness Bidding Cities arranging visits to respective Member NOCs of the PASO Movement to plead their case, make their sales pitch, promote the attributes of their particular bids and otherwise engage the NOCs in an effort to incorporate any recommendations for further enhancement of their bids.

Consequently, the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) will be entertaining visits from the NOC of Chile and the NOC of Peru in the month of July 2013. The vote to decide who shall win the honour to host the 2019 Pan Am Games will be taken at the next General Assembly of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), scheduled for October 2013 in the city of Toronto - host of the 2015 edition of the Pan American Games.

The first delegation to visit St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee will be the delegation from Chile which arrives on island, Friday 28th June, 2013 and leaves on 29th June. The delegation from Chile would comprise NOC President Neven Illic, Vice President Miguel Angel Mujica, Director, Jorge Silva and Advisor, Gonzalo Escobedo.

The Chilean NOC delegation would meet with the SKNOC Executive and representatives of Member Federations and athletes to make its case as to why it should be given the privilege to host the 2019 edition of the Pan Am Games. The visiting Chilean delegation will also meet with members of the local media. All meetings will be held at the Marriott Hotel, Frigate Bay.

Session at the Marriott with the visiting NOC delegates from Chile is scheduled to start at 1:30 pm on Friday 28th June.
