Politicians lodge objections over Voters Registration List

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-DISPUTE over the voter confirmation and registration process for the pending general elections in St. Kitts-Nevis continued today (Nov. 27) in East Basseterre and Sandy Point as hearings were held to rule on alleged discrepancies in the voters registration list issued earlier this month.

SKNVibes spoke to William Liburd, one of the main compilers of the People’s Action Movement’s (PAM) objection list, who said that there were roughly sixteen names on the 3000-plus name list for Constituency #1 that his party would be questioning in the hearing.

“The second list was never delivered to our party. We did not receive it until November 9 and had to file all of our objections by November 13,” Liburd said.

“We made the most of the time we had, but it was definitely short.”He said that many of the discrepancies PAM had found on the list were likely “paperwork errors”, but added that they needed to be addressed just the same.

Among the alleged incorrect information, Liburd said one individual did not write down the address of where he was transferring from when changing addresses. A second person was listed as living at Market Street, which falls under central Basseterre’s jurisdiction rather than East Basseterre’s.

Wingrove Archibald, Registration Officer for Constituency #1, will preside over the East Basseterre hearing and determine if the objections lodged have validity. ~~Adz:Right~~

SKNVibes unsuccessfully attempted to find a Labour Party representative prior to the hearing to determine if they had any objections to the voter registration list.

Meanwhile, a similar process was scheduled to take place simultaneously for Constituency #5 at the Sandy Point Community Center, though information reaching this media house indicated that the process was delayed from its regularly scheduled time of 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Similar exercises have been scheduled to take place in the other constituencies over the coming month, though specific information regarding the places and times of these events was not immediately available.
