~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FLASHLIGHTS, lighters and candles are expected to shine some light on the “current problem” during the People’s Action Movement (PAM) Lights Out Rally to be held on Bank Street this evening (Nov. 28).

The event, organized by PAM’s East and Central Basseterre committees, will begin at 5:00 pm and is expected to feature speeches from the Leader of the opposition party, Lindsay Grant, as well as the party’s slate of candidates for the upcoming elections.

Hon. Shawn Richards, PAM Representative in Parliament, declared that the people of St. Kitts “have had enough and are disgusted” by the power outages that have been affecting the nation in the months following an October fire at the Needsmust Power Station.

“At first, we could have understood that the fire damaged some of the generators and caused load shedding, but it has now reached an unbearable state! We cannot take any more of this! It has grown to be a problem that is affecting every facet of the country.

Businesses have been greatly affected and some had to close down due the untimely outages. Even at home, people can’t get to do what they have to, so we must all come out to show our utmost disgust for the problem.~~Adz:Right~~

“The ineffective, inefficient, inconsistent and inadequate electricity supply coupled with the high crime rate, high cost of living and corruption in government have significantly reduced the confidence of the people in the current administration. We can’t sit down and continue to act like it is not a problem. We shall make the message clear that enough is enough!”

Richards indicated that the event will have live entertainment provided by d’Vybz Band and Small Axe Band, and would feature the Legend’s Calypso Tent with over 20 calypsonians including King Sacrotes, Anastasia, Neglector, Big Edwards, Queen Kibbie, Dwighty, De Provoker and Captain Lickybud.

Richards encouraged the general public to come out to support what he deemed to be “an ideal jumpstart for Carnival” as the people make a public demonstration demanding the electricity be returned to a state of consistency.
