Hermitage resident charged with shooting at with intent

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST days after businessman and farmer Clement ‘Hump’ Greene was gunned down in cold blood, police believe they have made a breakthrough in the case following the arrest of a young man upon whom they slapped a murder charge.

Charged with murder is 25-year-old Chesel Glasgow of Stone Fort Heights, Challengers Village.

According to a police press release, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is continuing its mandate to maintain the safety and security of the Federation as “we continue to provide effective law enforcement services to the people of the Federation.

“In this view, we wish to advise the public and the family of Mr. Clement Greene (age 57) of Stone Fort, that through the investigations of the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU), Mr. Chesel Glasgow, age 25, also a resident of Stone Fort, has been arrested and formally charged on a warrant in the First Instance, for the murder of Clement Greene, of Stone Fort Height…”

The release also stated that Glasgow has since been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Sometime after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Jun 19), Greene was shot to death in his business place which is situated aback his residence in Stone Fort Heights in Challengers Village.

Reports reaching SKNVibes had stated that on the day in question, whilst in his shop, Greene was allegedly approached by an individual who attempted to rob him and fatally shot him during the process.

Greene’s motionless body was found lying on the floor of his shop.

Many people within the area where Greene lived had a good word to say about the deceased. One of them is Minister of Sports the Hon. Glenn Phillip, who is the Parliamentary Representative of the area.

Phillip, who had visited the crime scene, told this publication that he had known the deceased for his entire life and described him as a close friend who was always willing to give to those in need.

“I was in Cabinet and I received a call indicating that there was a shooting in Challengers. So, quite naturally, I made a call and I found out that it was my neighbour and friend, and it happened at a place that I visit daily. As a matter of fact, I usually stop here at mornings to buy bread.

“It is very devastating at this point in time knowing the nature of the individual and what he has done for ordinary persons who live across here. I could attest to a lot of acts of kindness that he has provided for persons in the community, whether it is providing persons with provisions for free or whatever it is…”

Phillip recalled that he last spent an extended period of time with Greene and friends at the shop two nights before his demise.

“On Monday night he was his old jovial self; so it is really devastating not just for this community but for myself personally.”

Meanwhile, police reported that they have arrested and charged Vanston Blackmore of Hermitage Extension on warrants in the first instance on three counts of shooting at with intent.

The 24-year-old allegedly committed the offences in Hermitage Village on Friday (Jun. 21) but the police have not stated against whom they were committed.

Also, police have arrested and charged Vernon Battice of Ponds Extension for a number of traffic offences.

A release stated that he was charged for allegedly driving a motorcycle without a valid driver’s licence and driving without insurance on Wednesday (Jun. 26).
