BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RESIDENTS across the Federation awoke this morning (July 1) to news of the shooting death of yet another young man, which took place at Bath Village, Nevis.
Information which SKNVibes received indicates that the deceased is Tonio ‘Dollar’ Hutton who – according to reports – is from Cotton Ground but resided at Bath Village.
This publication understands that sometime around 11:00 p.m. last night (Jun. 30) Hutton was on the verandah of his home when a gunman approached and opened fire upon him. He reportedly ran into the house in a bid to escape the onslaught but the adamant gunman gave chase.
Further information obtained by this media house suggests that Hutton sought refuge in his bedroom but his attacker followed him there and shot him to death.
Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force District ‘C’ (Nevis) are making investigations into the incident.
Deputy Premier in the Nevis Island Administration the Hon. Mark Brantley expressed condolences to Hutton’s relatives and made a call for the people of Nevis to end the silence and make their voices heard in the fight against crime.
“My heart goes out to the family of young Tonio Hutton and to the wider Nevisian community at home and abroad. How many more of us will have to suffer before WE, as a proud Nevisian community, decide that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! The Police are making every effort but they need the assistance of the general public. If we wish to see an end to this madness then let us stop enabling it with our slence (sic) and our apathy!”
Hutton’s death marks the Federation’s 17th homicide for the year.
