    State Scholar sets eyes on UWI
    Believes hard work reflects in performance

    State Scholar Agiel Browne

     

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE 2008 State Scholar, Agiel Browne, prides herself as a brilliant young lady, who attributes her academic success to hard work, dedication and sacrifice. 

     

    In an interview with SKNVibes, the Nevisian-born scholar said her dream is to pursue higher education at the University of the West Indies (UWI) in the field of Information Technology.

     

    She is the daughter of Roher Browne, Acting Assistant Manager of the Social Security Branch Office in Nevis, and Rawlinson Isaac, prominent businessman and former General Manager of the Bank of Nevis.

     

    Roher said that she is very proud of her daughter’s achievements and would continue to give her the love and support that have assisted her over the years in developing her potential.

     

    Agiel educational foundation commenced at the St. Thomas’ Primary School where she was always top of her class. She was also one of the students chosen to participate in the annual Tourism Quiz. The young scholar also excelled in the School’s Spelling Bee Competition and it came as no surprise when she was adjudged Nevis’ Top Student for the 2001 Screening Test.

     

    ~~Adz:Right~~At the Charlestown Secondary School, it is said that Agiel made good use of time, for many who are affiliated with her formative years recalled her either reading a book, studying or working on an assignment. They claimed that she always portrayed a very studious attitude.

     

    In 2006, Agiel sat for 10 CXC subjects and, in addition to achieving distinction in every subject area, she won the prestigious Best Business Student Award for the Caribbean.

     

    This achievement prompted her to move on to the Nevis Sixth Form in September 2006, where in her first year she successfully sat for Economics Unit 1, Management of Business Unit 1 and Communication Studies Unit 1.

     

    In her second year, success was achieved in Management of Business Unit 1, Cost Accounting Unit 2, Pure Mathematics Unit I, Information Technology and Caribbean Studies Unit 2. During the process, she achieved a Grade One pass in each subject area and was adjudged the State Scholarship winner of 2008.

     

    Agiel is an active member of the Nevis Chapter of the Leo Club, a very outstanding athlete who loves to listen to music and who also considers herself an accomplished cook. 

     

    She is currently employed at the Accounts Department of TDC, Nevis, where she finds work challenging but enjoyable. She is also a beneficiary of the prestigious TDC Warren Tyson Memorial Scholarship.
