BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- DELPHIC NEWTOWN UNITED bounced back from two straight defeats to move into second place when they beat Cayon FC 2-1 yesterday (Jul. 3) at the Newtown Playfield.

Earlier at the same venue, S.L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s trounced St. Thomas/Trinity Strikers in a one-sided affair, which saw them scoring four goals in the first half.

In the second half, the match however ended prematurely in the 65th minute as a result of lighting failure, and St. Paul’s romped home 4-nil.

Scoring for S.L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s were Josh Leader in the second minute, Rasheed Hodge in the 23rd, Javeen Blanchette in the 32nd and Terrence Ward in the 42nd minute.

Officials were Kimbell Ward, Mario Parry, O'Brien Clarke and Travester Richards.

Upon restoration of the lights, the second game got underway and featured home team Delphic Newtown United and Cayon FC.

Though getting off to a slow start, Newtown got the first goal through Kassal Greene in the 37th minute to the displeasure of the Cayon fans who thought the ball came off his hand.

Newtown’s second goal came through a penalty from Oldain Powell in the 65th minute.

Cayon was given a lifeline when they were awarded a 76th minute penalty which Kevin Benjamin pounced upon to put his team on the scorecard. They were however unable to find the back of Newtown’s net and lost the game 2-1.

Officials were James Matthew, Ike Inniss, Delroy Jeffers and Caldon Duncan.
